Kota is a city on the Chambal River in Rajasthan, northern India. Inside the Kota Garh, or City Palace, the Maharao Madho Singh Museum exhibits miniature paintings and antique weapons. South, along the river, tranquil Chambal Garden has a pond with crocodiles. Northeast, 18th-century Jagmandir Palace sits in the middle of Kishore Sagar Lake. Seven Wonders Park includes mini replicas of the Eiffel Tower and Taj Mahal.

Kota is a major coaching hub of the country for competitive examination preparations and has a number of engineering and medical coaching institutes. A major part of Kota's economy depends on its student population. Every year more than 150,000 students visit and study in Kota to study and prepare for JEE and NEET.

The Kota saris like most traditional piece of work had started becoming lost before designer Vidhi Singhania moved to Kota and started working with the workers to revive its market. Many textile shops in the city sell different varieties of Kota doriya. These saris have become one of the trademarks of the city

The fine-grained variety of limestone quarried from Kota district is known as Kota stone, with rich greenish-blue and brown colours. Kota stone is tough, non-water-absorbent, non-slip, and non-porous. The varieties include Kota Blue Natural, Kota Blue Honed, Kota Blue Polished, Kota Blue Cobbles, Kota Brown Natural and Kota Brown Polished.

Trikuta Dham

This auspicious temple of Maa Trikuta, a synonym for Maa Vaishno Devi had its construction going on in Kota from about past 10 to 12 years. The time it took does the proper justice with the grandeur of this temple.

Bundi fort

The Bundi fort which was constructed in the year 1354 is said to be one of the most impressive structures situated in the city of Ajmer, which is present in the northern state of Rajasthan. The state of Bundi was founded in this year by Rao Deva, and this was when the construction of this massive square began.

Seven Wonder Park

A newbie in the city, this one of a kind park is perfect to witness the marvelous seven wonders at one place. This is one of the best places to visit in Kota which features the miniature versions of all the seven wonders in the world.

Darrah National Park

Home to three wildlife sanctuaries in Rajasthan, this national park was established in 2004. Spread over a hilly terrain, the Darrah National Park shares boundaries with Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary and Jawahar Sagar Sanctuary.

Situated at a distance of 50 kms away from Kota, this national park is considered as one of the most famous national parks in Rajasthan. Earlier this national park was to be a ground for royal hunting and with time the Rajputs, Marathas and the Britishers exploited this land to seek asylum during wars.

Around 1955, the Government of India declared this park as a protected area and this national park came into limelight in 2004.

Mukundara Tiger Sanctuary

The national park contains large tracts of forests formerly part of the Maharaja of Kota's hunting grounds. The park was embroiled in a political controversy over its nomenclature, when the Bharatiya Janata Party state government revoked the decision that it be called the Rajiv Gandhi National Park.

Kotah Garh (City Palace)

According to tradition, the foundations of the City Palace (also known as the Garh) were first laid in 1264 C.E. by Prince Jait Singh of Bundi on the spot where he sacrificed and buried the severed head of the defeated Bhil Chieftain Koteya who had previously ruled the region. The name ‘Kotah' is often said to memorialize the human sacrifice (nar bali) of Koteya, although it may equally reference the presence of a strong fort, or kot.

This palace located in Kota, Rajasthan is known for its variety of architectural structures in a single complex. Locally called the city palace, this place has a vast number of apartments and monuments which are sheer man-made marvels.

All these architectures were built in different eras and reflects the rich heritage of Rajput rule and Mughal art. Inside the palace there are wall paintings, mirror walls, mirror ceilings, and floral decorations. Alongside this the entire palace has magnificent marble floorings and entrance to fell in love with.

Kota Barrage

Kota Barrage is one of the magnificent tourist places in Kota where people gather to enjoy a view of the white frothy water flowing in full force. Part of one of the major constructions of the Chambal Valley Project over the Chambal river.

This was built for storage of water which was stored by the three previous dams of the Gandhi Sagar Dam, Jawahar Sagar Dam and Rana Pratap Sagar Dam. Later it was channelized to the dry areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh for irrigation purposes via canals. In the present this project helps in irrigation of around 20,000 acres of land.

Jagmandir Palace

Resting just in the middle of the Kishore Sagar Lake, the Jag Mandir palace is one of the unique places to see in Kota. Built with magnificent red stone, this palace was made by one of the queens of Kota around the year 1740.

In the early times, this place was treated as the summer house for the erstwhile kings. The best experience of the palace is to witness the reflection over the shimmering lake.

Garadia Mahadev Temple

Situated at an altitude of 500 feet, Garadia Mahadev Temple is one of the unique and magnificent tourist places to visit in Kota. Resting over the gorge through which the Chambal river passes, one can feel a divine connection by merely standing here.

There are rituals performed by the local priest who stays inside the temple till 5:30pm. This place is not recommended to be visited at late hours.

Gaipernath Waterfall

A haven for nature lovers and a go to spot for the photographers, the Gaipernath Waterfall is located in the middle of thick greens. Creating a small pool of water below, the waterfall is considered one of the go to Places to visit in Kota among the locals.

The waterfall is also a famous trekking spot and attracts loads of locals who want to spend some peaceful time away from the hustle and bustle of city lives. In the monsoons, the stream becomes thicker and exhibits milky white texture which further creates a pool of bubbles below it which is truly a sight to behold.
